The Farm / Weekend Retreats

About the RawFoodFarm:

The RawFoodFarm began back in 2001 as just an idea. A small farm where I could practice intensively growing all my own foods. Later, I realized that such a place could be a haven for others. A great place to invite those looking to connect one-on-one to learn intensively about the raw food diet and sustainable living in a real-world setting. I realized that many would be skeptical and held back by the high cost or high-profile involved in an expensive, more commercial retreat setting. Therefore I sought to provide an alternative. A place where folks could come, and for the cost of donation only, learn about the Vegan Raw Food Diet, plan a menu that is right for them, and arm themselves with the knowledge, tools, and practices they need to succeed.

Fast forward 6 years. I purchased 3 acres of land in a small rural neighborhood in Avon Park. This is located in the heart of one of the last rural areas in Florida is nestled right in the middle of 1000’s of acres of orange groves, dairy country, and natural Florida park lands. The area is dotted with natural lakes, agricultural lands, nature trails and preserves, and country homesteads. Although rural, I chose this area because it is still close to the small towns of Avon Park and Sebring – and so the farm still has access to most modern amenities and options.

Briefly, the farm is in a small rural neighborhood with paved roads, along with several dozen other 3-5 acre homesteads. There is a small new house, and the land is very sandy and covered with scrub grasses and bush. There is a medium-sized oak tree in front of the house, and a few smaller oak trees and scrub along the perimeter and dotted on the 3 acres.  There is a storage shed, water well, and power pole. It is located about 5 miles from the small town of Avon Park, and about 10 miles from the much larger and more modern Sebring.

Getting to the Farm

For those would want to come to a weekend retreat, the farm is about a 90 minute drive from Orlando to the north (which has the nearest international airport), and about a 2.5 hour drive from Miami in the south. There is a small municipal airport in Sebring and Avon Park , but the quickest way to the farm is to drive, or by taking an Amtrak Railroad trip from Orlando International Airport / Miami International Airport direct to Sebring. The Amtrak station is only a short distance (about 8 miles) from either Airport and the station in Sebring is about 10 miles from the farm. A one-way Amtrak trip is short, painless and inexpensive ($16 from Orlando and $24 from Miami ). I would then pick up any attendees at the station in Sebring, bring them to the farm, and return you to the station at the conclusion of the retreat.

The RawFoodFarm is a great place to come and learn about the Raw Food Diet in a quiet and removed setting – at the cost of donation only. The suggested donation for weekend retreats is $50.00. Transportation to and from the Amtrak station, Raw fresh fruits and vegetables, and a guest room are provided for your stay. Clients would be expected to arrive in Sebring on Friday (at 3:00 pm), stay Saturday, and leave on Sunday (at 10:00 am).
